Career Pivot at 53

From Corporate Analytics to Building My Own Brand

Reviews and Lists started because I knew a corporate layoff was coming, and I wanted a creative project to focus on—a way to get back to my marketing roots. What began as a hobby to learn how to build a website and understand affiliate marketing has quickly become a place to channel a genuine love for smart life hacks, clever finds, and things that just make daily routines better. More than that, it has become the foundation of something much bigger.

The Pivot

At 53, I am making some big changes. I’m focusing my energy back on my original career focus: marketing. Like many accidental tourists in corporate America, I ended up spending decades in a completely different lane—focusing on transformation and analytics. I loved every minute of my corporate career, but when the layoff hit, something in me changed.

Learning the Ropes

The last few months have been a crash course in building a brand from scratch. It has been equal parts challenging and rewarding:

  • Building and designing a website from the ground up
  • Launching an official LLC
  • Diving deep into affiliate and brand marketing
  • Learning social media as a content creator rather than an observer

I have to admit; I was most surprised by the TikTok community actually turning out to be a real community and a great teacher—and I’ve enjoyed every minute of it.

Branching Out

In addition to Reviews and Lists, I’ve also branched out to share other passions. You can find me at the following place for other content I am passionate about:

🚢 @TheCruiseReel

A channel dedicated to my love of cruising, onboard experiences, and everything I’ve gathered along the way.

🌍 @TransientDaily

A collection of life experiences, daily thoughts, motivation, travel and a few random experiences.

Looking Ahead

It will be fun to see where all of this ends up over the next year: whether I eventually return to corporate America or continue forging this new path as I move toward retirement. Either way, I’m glad you’re here for the journey.
